Tata Africa Holdings Ghana opens service facility at Tema

Tata Africa Holdings Ghana (TAHGL) has officially inaugurated a fully-functional state-of-the-art sales and service facility in Kpone, Tema, on November 8, 2010. The sales, service and spares facility is intended to serve customers in the Greater Accra Region. It would complement the existing network of TAHGL authorised dealer, PHC Motors, in Accra and other cities. It will enable customers to buy a range of Tata brands and enhance quality of service from Tata.

Minister of Trade and Industry, Hannah Tetteh, jointly with Raman Dhawan, managing director, Tata Africa Holdings, officially inaugurated this facility. In her speech, the minister said that the relationship between Ghana and India continues to grow from strength to strength, adding that the growing interest in Ghana shows investors have confidence in Ghana as a good place for business and as an ideal platform to reach out to the rest of West Africa. She said the Tata facility is one such facility that boosts employment opportunities for the youth in Ghana. She urged the youth to regard employment opportunities not only as income-generating avenues but also as platforms to develop themselves.

Mr Dhawan reaffirmed Tata’s commitment to Ghana and Africa. He explained Tata's future investment plans in other sectors of the Ghanaian economy including ICT and healthcare. He gave an in-depth account of Tata’s philosophy and explained to the gathering why Tata had become such an international statesman-like brand.

Sudeep Ray, regional director, West Africa, Tata Africa Holdings, explained that the new facility demonstrates Tata’s commitment to provide superior after-sales service and reaching out to its current and new clients in Ghana. He explained that the sales facility offers prospective customers the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the Tata brands and to make informed purchases.

In her very encouraging speech the Indian high commissioner, Ruchi Ghanshyam, asserted the reliability and acceptability of Tata products across the globe. She also mentioned Tata's contribution in various sectors like education, healthcare and administrative services.

In a speech read on his behalf, Mike Hammah, Minister of Transportation, said, ”Ghana appreciates Tata’s contribution to the transportation sector by having this facility in Tema, adding that for the past years that Tata has been in Ghana, it has become a pacesetter in the industry in terms of innovation of new products, customer satisfaction, among others.”

Other dignitaries who graced the occasion included Nii Tetteh Otu II, Paramount Chief of Kpone Traditional Area; ET Mensah, Minister of Employment and Social Welfare; Akua Sena Dansoa, Sports Minister; Nii Armah Ashitey, Minister for Greater Accra Region, Fifi Kwetey, deputy minister for finance; Mettle Nunoo, deputy minister for health; Vivek Saraswat, general manager, Tata Africa Holdings Ghana; Anil Sekhar, regional manager, North and West Africa, commercial vehicles, Tata Motors; Surinder Nijhawan, regional manager, passenger car vehicle unit, Tata Motors; Paul Pepra, managing director, PHC Motors, and members of the press.
